There are 2 good programs that you can use to disable startup items:
1) Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
2)CodeStuff Starter
http://members.lycos.co.uk/codestuff/

If you know what you want to disable these work well, but if you're not sure what something does do not disable it until you research it or get confirmaton that you can disable it from a knowledgable person here.

If you post a list of the programs running at startup one of the people here can tell you which you can disable.
