Doing this so i could get few other people involved, in this one problem. tried installing the new driver by add new hardware, find driver (browse) etc.. and it worked! all i need now (i think) is to know how to set my speakers as my sound device, when i go into control panel, sounds and audio devices, under the volume tab it still says no audio device, and under that is greyed out. but when i go to the hardware tab there is a soundMAX thing there which says it is working properly.. is this a good thing? will my speakers work once i get them as an audio device loll?

Hi Lochy,

Couple of things:
This is very basic, but must be checked.
It would be silly to keep having problems if the solution was this simple.
Here's a pic of the connectors on the back of a typical "onboard sound" computer.
Posted Image

Please be sure you have your speaker connector plugged into the "green" socket.

I'll post this and then get right back to you.

the most important place for you to check on your Sound driver is in Device Manager. Yes there are some entries in Control Panel, but we need to be most interested in Device Manager right now. Questions: In Device Manager, please double-click on - Sound, video, and game controllers Please write down the list of what appears under Sound video and game controllers. the list should look something like: Audio Codecs WDM Audio Codec Legacy Audio Drivers Legacy Video Capture Devices Media Control Device Video Codecs You may have more, less, or different items, but please post the full list. EDIT: Another thing easily overlooked......... are your speakers Plugged into Power?

Please Download Everest 2.20, here:
http://www.majorgeek...wnload4181.html

Run Everest 2.20
Look in the left-hand column
Select - MultiMedia - Windows Audio

Next
In the Command Bar at the top of Everest:
Select Report - Quick Report
Create and Save a Quick Report for Windows Audio

Next
Select - MultiMedia - PCI / PNP Audio
Select Report - Quick Report
Create and Save a Quick Report for PCI / PNP Audo

The following is "an example" from a machine here on my bench right now:
I will "highlight in blue" what I want you to post.
I will "highlight in Red", what I don't need you to post.

Most of the information that we will use is in the "top" potion of the Quick Report.
Then there will be a long list of apparently non-sensical numbers and letters arranged in "Blocks"
We don't need the "block" information at this time.

As you can see, posting the "blocked" information would take up a lot of space in a forum that if not needed would be just waisted space.
We'll be conservationists for the time being. ;)

Onboard Audio connectors are arranged "vertically" on most machines with "onboard audio" machines with added PCI sound Cards have Audio connector plugs arranged "horizontally" and much lower on the back of the case, corresponding to the location of the PCI Sound Card. Which is yours? Vertical and higher up on the back of computer Horizontal and lower down on the back of the computer

no there are no "other devices" now, i got rid of it by installing the driver by installing the audio device and finding the driver you got me to download, from browse folders.. and it installed properly.

Well my audio plugs are just underneath the Ethernet plug, and they are both connected on the same thing..

if what your saying is "do i have an added sound card" i dont think i do.. the audio plugs are within the bunch of normal bunch of plugs. but the audio plugs are on the bottom of the normal plugs.. and its horizontal.

Thanks Lochy, You described that clearly. I've been searching around in case there is a better/different driver. If you were to attempt to play a music cd or a music file via Media Player, do you get an Error Message? If so, what is the Error Message?

ok, well when i go to play a simple system file sound like "error" from control panel>sound and audio devices>sounds tab.. it says windows cannot play the sound "name of sound". Your card may be in use and when i go to the voice tab.. and press test hardware, it says "your sound hardware cannot play sounds".. and when i go to the audio tab and press "Volume", it says "windows cannot execute Sndvol32.exe use add/remove programs to install." :S and when i try to play a windows media MUSIC file.. it says "window media player cannot play the file. the player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
